Possible interpretations for “the problem comes into focus”

1) Alice is not an average woman;
2) The woman doesn’t understand maths because she thinks it is impossible;
3) The woman spends all her time reading magazines.

I might have over-analysed?

@thehamishgibson

Hurray for equality for the down trodden minority. Wait are women a minority?

mbevks Says:

Outdated: Average women who stay in the workforce get paid more for similar work but work fewer hours.

@Mogsoup6 The ratio’s in the 70% region for women to men salaries. As for promotions, atm as more stereotyped males are in management positions, they’re likely to have contacts similar to them they might favour, so there’s still institutionalised sexism (ie some of the people in power’s position starts a vicious circle).

What’s not touched on enough is that women are doing better in education + coming out of university with better degrees + in larger numbers, so the long term is looking fairer.

Mogsoup6 Says:

@ghandiwon Aren’t some of those statistics old and outdated though? Can’t remember where but I remember reading that that wage gap is almost non-existant now (employers pay standard wages for benchmark jobs) and the higher you move up the pay scale there definitely is no gap. Difficulty at getting promoted…not sure about that one, but I do know there are white collar sectors that are now female dominated. I’m just saying the gap is a lot less of a problem now, not that it doesn’t still exist.

Very good ones this time!

MrZebster Says:

“I guess i’m just one of those women that never learns” If I do recall, that is what the lady said. Poor poor lady…

ghandiwon Says:

@Mogsoup6 actually even if you look at women in the same career with the same job description, women are statistically paid less then men. Even more so, they find it harder to get promoted and because they tend to start with lower starting wages, will end up earning less in the long run to. This is because most companies base raises on percentage of current wage.
For the most part, high paying dangerous jobs are not what make up the majority of the market in the United States.

JorickHorn Says:

@PhantomAct What I would do at this time in my life (which I wouldn’t have when I knew the sexist I mentioned before) is say to her “Hold on, where the hell do you get off making the same kind of sexist generalizations you claim to be fighting?” If that doesn’t even get her thinking, then that’s the end of my interactions with her. But I do not think that most feminists are like that.

PhantomAct Says:

@JorickHorn The only feminists i’ve met were men haters, and they preyed on the normal women esp. when they were vulnerable (after a break up). Like horrible witches, they’d start the “ALL MEN …” propaganda engine. I’m all for equal rights, but a bit more, I’m for meritocracy, i.e. reward those whose achivements deserve rewarding. Just like back at school when you got graded.

JorickHorn Says:

@PhantomAct That depends on the kind of feminist you’re talking about. Equality is the best thing; level starting ground. The women who can’t stop chatting about how all men are scum as the vile, discriminatory ones, but in my whole life, I’ve only met one of those. Every other feminist I’ve ever known has been like me, an equalist.

PhantomAct Says:

Feminists need be fired. They are as vile and discriminatory as proper racists.

Mogsoup6 Says:

@patu8010 The standard argument to that statistic is that the male average is bumped up by high paying dangerous and physical jobs.

patu8010 Says:

So every woman earns an extra 75 cents for every dollar that men make? Woh, that’s a lot.

liarsclub75 Says:

What is the helmet head woman wearing though? The longest sweater ever?

Benivey2 Says:

I must say that the quality of these are getting better.
